Return of the British Curling Open

After a six year break The British Curling Open made its return from 27 – 29 April at its new home - The PEAK.

Gavin Fleming in collaboration with Stirling Curling Group and Active Stirling brought the competition back to life. Along with fantastic efforts from the ice team and volunteers the weekend saw a hugely successful return for the competition and it also made the perfect setting for the exciting conclusion of the Goldline Scottish Curling Tour 2017/18.

During the three day competition spectators were treated to lots of great curling with some nail biting throws and surprise wins creating a great atmosphere on the ice at The PEAK. Players were playing for the title of British Open champions as well as the Goldline Scottish Curling Tour being decided. Colin and Jeanette Galbraith (donors of the GSCT trophies) presented the winners of the Goldline Scottish Curling Tour prizes and the Colin Galbraith Jnr Memorial trophies. The winners of the British Open were presented their prizes by Andrew Bain, Chief Executive at Active Stirling.

Suzanne Burns, Active Stirling’s Programme and Events Manager said “It’s great to be able to support such a fantastic sport, and we are delighted to have hosted the final competition of the Goldline Scottish Curling Tour. The successful weekend has set the stage for next year’s British Open competition. Curling is a big part of our community. It’s fantastic to have the opportunity to host competitions for both our local teams and teams from around the UK.”
